16 , the general office of the state Council announced the measures for receiving Taiwan compatriots visiting relatives. 11 June 2 , the first batch of Taiwanese visiting relatives went to the mainland via Hong Kong. Shanghai Pudong New Area has become China's first state-level new area. 4 In April, the Chinese government sent five military observers to the United Nations Truce Supervision Organization for the first time, opening the prelude to China's participation in UN peacekeeping operations. 11
