When I was a child, when I got up early in the morning, my father inserted the wormwood collected one day in advance into the head of the door, which means "avoiding evil and exorcising ghosts. My mother was busy cooking tea eggs in the kitchen. A large pot of wormwood water that had already been cooked was poured into a large wooden basin. My sister and I took turns to jump into the bath. It is said that it can detoxify and cure diseases. Sitting in a wooden basin with a floating wormwood leaf, sucking the slowly rising fragrance of wormwood, I feel refreshed and comfortable. After taking a bath, my parents were still busy, so our sisters moved a small bench and sat at the door looking left and right, smelling the fragrance of zongzi from each family and swallowing saliva.
Although my family is in the countryside, my mother has not learned the craft of making zongzi. However, every year on the Dragon Boat Festival, we have never lacked zongzi to eat, because every day, neighbors will send their own zongzi. A few come over, so we can eat many different flavors. Like candied jujube dumplings from big-headed mother, red bean dumplings from grandma su yue, pork dumplings from sister-in-law, and so on, the fragrance of glutinous rice, the sweetness of jujube, and the fat and greasy pork all make people happy. My favorite is candied jujube zongzi. The sweet candied jujube and the sticky glutinous rice are really delicious.
Old people say that the various customs of the Dragon Boat Festival contain wishes for the safety and health of their loved ones. But where do we children care about this? We are tired of playing all day, yawn and fall asleep. When we wake up, we smell the fragrance of zongzi. In this thick blessing and expectation, we gradually grow up.
During the years when I was studying at school, every time the Dragon Boat Festival was approaching, I would receive a call from my family, reminding me that it was time to take a bath with mugwort leaves and eat zongzi, but for young people, the meaning of the Dragon Boat Festival It seems to be more holidays, travel, and shopping. After graduation, I went back to my hometown to work and found that my mother still couldn't make zongzi, and the Dragon Boat Festival still received zongzi of various flavors. We are still forced by our mother to take a bath of wormwood. It turns out that the customs of our hometown have not changed, but we have changed. The joy of childhood has become indifferent today. However, no matter how long the shadow of the tree is pulled at dusk, it is always connected with the root; so are we, no matter how far we go, our hometown and relatives are always the fetters and worries in our hearts.
