In the last few days of 2016 , they always regretted missing a movie. Because this small city is inexplicably listed as a second-tier city by a certain evaluation agency, most locals regard the news as a joke. The film distributors had a natural instinct, so none of the theaters in town put the film on. In the past six months, it was not until I met a book that people suddenly remembered. This book and that movie, as well as an earlier three-episode documentary, have the same name, "I Repair Cultural Relics in the Forbidden City."

"I Repair Cultural Relics in the Forbidden City" was filmed to commemorate the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Palace Museum 90#. 2016 1 became popular rapidly after its premiere on CCTV, becoming the most influential phenomenal documentary of the year. This book is a logical product between the hit documentary and the release of the movie version. Books related to film and television are always beautifully done, and this one is certainly no exception. Besides, the Forbidden City, cultural relics, never lack of visual impact of the two themes together, it is difficult to think not beautiful. The slightly rough but textured light paper, the naked line binding that can be spread out naturally on any page, the full-color photographic illustrations, and the simple and thick cover design make the sense of history come to the face. Moreover, most of the characters and scenes in the picture have been seen in documentaries. They are quite familiar with each other, and they are inexplicably kind when looking at them.

According to different types of cultural relics or types of work, the book is divided into six parts: clock room, bronze ware group, copying room, mounting room, wood ware room and lacquer ware room. The oral records of 12 cultural relics restorers have been seen and heard in documentaries and not in many documentaries. The female writer Green Demon expressed her respect for these people who are repairing history every day in a sense.

Of course, text expressions and documentaries focus on different image effects, and they can relatively freely explore the unknown or often ignored corners behind characters and cultural relics. Many of the background and details that the documentary is limited to space and fails to fully explain are reflected in the book. For example, the origin of the Ministry of Culture, Protection and Technology, the inheritance of the restoration techniques of the Imperial Palace cultural relics, the choice between the restoration of "not out of shape" and the artistic creation of advocating individuality (although the word "choice" seems to be used a bit too much, but for many young and middle-aged restorers with professional background, they will inevitably face a completely different fate choice), of course, many people will be concerned about how much money these top cultural relic restorers in China and even in the world can earn every month. If the documentary reveals the mystery of the cultural relic restorers in the red wall of the Forbidden City, and makes the audience get closer to this special group and their work, the book version further enlarges the word "people" and restores the Forbidden City as much as possible. The living conditions of the inheritors of the century-old skills, or the collision between these little-known people who "dialogue" with the ancients every day and today's social thoughts, the collision between the ancient techniques of cultural relic restoration and the ever-changing modern technology.

From the documentary "I Repair Cultural Relics in the Forbidden City", these people who work silently in a corner of the Forbidden City are associated with the "craftsman spirit" by fans. "Craftsman spirit" is a hot word in the past two years. It is very tall to say, but from these protagonists, it is not difficult for us to get the simplest interpretation: regard "doing things seriously" as a daily routine, a habit, until it becomes a matter of course. Some people may use "willing to be lonely", "stick to" and "dedication" to evaluate them, but compared with their indifference to the camera and the cultural relics in their hands, these beautiful words are really pale. In the final analysis, what we admire, the kind of thing that these people have that many of us don't have, is a sense of awe for things, things, and their careers. Only in this way can there be the persistence of "choosing one thing for the rest of your life", the satisfaction of "building one piece and two pieces in a year", the hidden rules of the industry that handle the heavy equipment of the country every day but do not involve collection for life, and the light wind in the face of interviews and sudden "red. A lot of good words, does not mean that the book is perfect. For example, the ceramic group, which appeared a lot in the documentary, did not appear in the book. No matter the Forbidden City collection or folk collection, ceramics are major items, and it is a bit unacceptable to lack this piece. However, it is understandable to think that the master Wang Wusheng, who has been repairing Tang Sancai Malaysia in the film, once said that he was about to retire. Maybe when he made this book, he had already gone home to enjoy his old age. In addition, there are several mistakes in the book, which may be due to the slip of the tongue of the masters or the recorder's lack of understanding of professional terms. Although there are not many mistakes, they are also regarded as minor flaws. Friends who like hide-and-seek may as well look for them.

In order to write the above words, I went online to "review" the three-episode documentary "I repaired cultural relics in the Forbidden City" from beginning to end. By the way, I did something I regretted-watching the movie version I missed. The movie version, which was released through crowdfunding, has been controversial on the Internet since it was released at the end of 2016 . What should I say after watching it? Living in a small place can sometimes miss something, but this "miss" may not necessarily be a bad thing.

Before putting the book into the bookshelf, I specially read the cross-page picture lined with the front ring of the book-the rich cornices in a corner of the sky background, and a crow standing alone in a dark silhouette between the spine beasts, thin but striking. I suddenly thought that those craftsmen who are busy mending history under this cornices are also so lonely that people can't ignore it, but for them personally, how much significance does the world's attention have?
