In Huang Ping, most of the Miao people, like the Han people, celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on May 5, but some Miao families celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on June 6.

The Dragon Boat Festival is held on June 6, mainly by some families of the Miao people surnamed Wu and Yang, so they often encounter interesting phenomena that villagers in the same cottage celebrate the festival at different times. My mother, aunt and sister married to the same shanzhai. My father and uncle are both surnamed Yang, but my family's Dragon Boat Festival is on June 6 and my uncle's house is on May 5. Listen to adults, because my uncle's ancestors fled from other cottages to settle here. Although they are all named Yang like us, they are not the same "Yang", and their holiday habits are different.

Why do we celebrate the Dragon Boat Festival on June 6? Adults are not clear, but the relevant rules are very strict. For example, there is one that is not allowed to be brought into the home until June when zongzi leaves and horse lotus grass bundled with zongzi are not allowed. On May 5 of one year, my uncle invited us to his house for the festival. When he came back, my aunt gave me a dozen zongzi. My mother saw that there were still a few stacks of rice dumplings left in my aunt's house. Unfortunately, she threw them away. Anyway, she could use them on June 6 and brought them home together. Unexpectedly, that night, grandma found a dozen small gray snakes wrapped like straw under the wooden basin where she washed her feet. Over the next few days, the same thing happened elsewhere. Grandma felt something was wrong and asked the wizard in the village to calculate the divination, saying that there was something wrong at home. Later, I asked the mage to come to my home and ask for the forgiveness of my ancestors. Of course, with the current scientific knowledge to explain, it is a normal phenomenon that small animals such as insects and snakes are easy to breed in dark and humid corners, but since then, the family has never dared to put rice dumplings at home before June.

Like other people's Dragon Boat Festival on May 5, the Dragon Boat Festival on June 6 in my family is also a folk festival for worshipping gods and ancestors and praying for good fortune to ward off evil spirits. A few days before the festival, my brother and sister-in-law will personally go to the married sisters home and invite them back to celebrate the festival; the day before the Dragon Boat Festival, you have to dress up to make zongzi; on the day of the Dragon Boat Festival, wormwood must be hung before dawn, and you must worship your ancestors before eating zongzi...
