Pinellia ternata decoction pieces commonly used in clinical practice of traditional Chinese medicine are dried tubers of Pinellia ternata, a perennial herb of Araceae. The whole plant of Pinellia ternata is toxic, and its tuber can be poisoned when eaten raw at 0.1-1.8g, which has strong stimulation to the mucous membranes of oral cavity, throat and digestive tract. Taking a small amount can make the mouth and tongue numb, while taking a large amount can cause burning pain and swelling, inability to vocalize, vomiting, numbness of the whole body, slow and incomplete breathing, spasm, dyspnea, which can lead to permanent loss and even paralysis to death. Therefore, the common Pinellia ternate on the market is processed. Most of the commonly used processing methods are water, fire or water and fire.
